DOL Announces $36 Million to Help Storm Recovery and Cleanup in Northern California

The money is part of a National Dislocated Worker Grant.

After an unusual amount of rain led to flooding and mudslides in Northern California during the month of January 2017, the U.S. Department of Labor has announced a National Dislocated Worker Grant to the tune of $36 million will be awarded.

An initial $12 million has been released to the California Employment Development Department. The funds allow temporary job creation in order to assist in the relief effort. More specifically, an estimated 1,800 jobs will help assist with cleanup, demolition, repair, renovation, and reconstruction of public structures.

Roads, public parks, the Lake Oroville dam spillway, and other infrastructure have sustained extensive damage because of the flooding and mudslides.
