CDC Identifies Zika Risk in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties

It’s the first virus transmission since June 15, 2016.

According to a news release, the CDC has identified a potential risk of Zika virus transmission in Miami-Dade County, as well as Broward and Palm Beach Counties in Florida. The transmission started on June 15, 2016.

An analysis of acquired Zika cases, as well as travel patterns, has led the agency to determine that since June 15, 2016, there has been a potential increased risk for residents in Broward and Palm Beach because of travel areas.

The CDC says that an increased risk of Zika exposure attributed to semen could be attributed to: local transmission in Miami-Dade County, evidence Zika can persist in semen longer than other fluids, ongoing concern about Zika due to undiagnosed people, and the regular movement of people between counties.
