Smokeless Tobacco Recalled After Metal Found in Cans

Copenhagen, Skoal, Cope, and Husky brands are affected.

Some smokeless tobacco products from U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company, a unit of Altria Group Inc., are being recalled after reports of metal objects found in the tobacco. The defect was found in six states -- Indiana, Texas, North Carolina, Tennessee, Wisconsin, and Ohio.

Brands affected include Copenhagen, Cope, Husky, and Skoal. The products affected were manufactured at a Franklin Park, Ill. facility and distributed nationally.

No injuries have been reported.

U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company has notified the U.S. Food and Drug Administration of the recall and is working with federal authorities on this matter, according to the company's news release, which said USSTC initiated the recall after receiving eight consumer complaints of foreign metal objects, including sharp metal objects, found in select cans.

A consumer who has any of the recalled products should not open or use the product; they should contact USSTC at 1-866-201-9136 to return the product for a refund.
