Textron Specialized Vehicles Recalls 1,100 ATVs

The Bad Boy XTO and Bone Collector XTO off-road utility vehicles are not equipped with seat belts and pose a risk of serious injury in an accident.

Textron Specialized Vehicles, Inc. of Augusta, Ga., and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall of about 1,100 Bad Boy off-road utility vehicles on Jan. 11 following a rollover accident that killed a 14-year-old passenger in Georgia in 2014 and a separate rollover caused a serious leg injury to an adult male operator.

These off-road utility vehicles are not equipped with seat belts and pose a risk of serious injury in an accident.

Consumers who have one of them are asked to contact Textron Specialized Vehicles toll-free at 855-738-3711 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern time weekdays or to visit www.badboyoffroad.com and click on "Recall Information" for more information.

The recall involves Bad Boy XTO and Bone Collector XTO model off-road, four-wheeled utility vehicles manufactured by Textron Specialized Vehicles. They are battery powered and have a bench seat for a driver and one passenger and a two-passenger, rear-facing bench seat in back. They were sold in camouflage, black, white, forest green, flame red, and patriot blue and have their brand and model name printed on the side and front panels. The recalled vehicles have serial numbers ranging from 8000020 through 8004934; the serial number is located on the steering column connected to the wheel.

The recalled vehicles were sold at Bad Boy dealers nationwide from November 2010 through June 2013 for between $13,200 and $14,200 and manufactured in the United States. Consumers should immediately stop using them and contact Textron Specialized Vehicles or an authorized dealer for a free installation of seat belts. Textron Specialized Vehicles is contacting all known purchasers directly.
