Michigan OSHA Cites Exhaust Equipment Manufacturer

The agency reported its General Industry Safety and Health Division conducted an inspection at the Ypsilanti facility in response to an employee complaint alleging safety and health hazards. Citations were issued for eight serious, six repeat serious, three other-than-serious, and two repeat other-than-serious violations.

The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration recently issued 19 citations to automotive exhaust component manufacturer Bosal Industries Georgia Inc., an Ypsilanti company, for alleged violations of worker safety and health provisions and issued $265,600 in penalties.

The agency reported its General Industry Safety and Health Division conducted an inspection at the Ypsilanti facility in response to an employee complaint alleging safety and health hazards. Citations were issued for eight serious, six repeat serious, three other-than-serious, and two repeat other-than-serious violations involving abrasive wheels; floor and wall openings, stairways, and skylights; fire exits; cutting and welding; powered industrial trucks; metalworking machinery; lockout/tagout; Hazard Communication; and more.

MIOSHA also conducted seven inspections at the facility from 2010 to 2016, resulting in 61 citations totaling $154,950 in proposed penalties.

MIOSHA is part of the state Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.
