Trump Picks Oklahoma Attorney General for EPA Post

Pruitt has been a fierce and outspoken challenger of environmental actions taken by President Obama's administration.

Scott Pruitt, Oklahoma's attorney general, is President-elect Donald J. Trump's choice to head the Environmental Protection Agency, media sources that include The New York Times and The Hill reported Dec. 7.

Pruitt has been a fierce and outspoken challenger of environmental actions taken by President Obama's administration, and his office website describes him as "a national leader in the cause to restore the proper balance of power between the states and federal government, having served two terms as president of the Republican Attorneys General Association," adding, "Pruitt filed the first lawsuit challenging the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, and is a leading advocate against the EPA's activist agenda."

As AG, Pruitt sued EPA on behalf of Oklahoma utilities opposed to additional regulation of their coal-fired power plants.

He was elected attorney general in November 2010 after serving eight years in the Oklahoma State Senate.
