Four Die at Australian Theme Park on Raft Ride

The victims were killed at Dreamworld Theme Park, Australia's largest park.

Four people were killed while riding a water rapids ride at Australia's Dreamworld, according to multiple media reports that said a malfunction ejected two victims from their raft and caused two others to be trapped on the Thunder River Rapids ride.

Police said the victims had been injured by a conveyor belt that pulls the rafts out of the water at the end of the ride. The park has been closed until further notice.

'Theme parks are a place for family fun and happiness, not tragedy," Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said in a statement. "This is a very, very sad, tragic event. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives."

Turnbull has called for a thorough investigation into the incident, and the park reported it is working to establish the facts alongside emergency authorities, according to a statement.
