The final day of the expo focused on the products

Day three of the NSC Expo & Congress 2016 is finished, and the show has ended. So what did we see while at the show? There are a number of good products and initiatives on display, but let's focus on some of the standouts.

Industrial Scientific had two primary products on the display, the first being the Radius™ BZ1 Area Monitor. This gas detection monitor can detect up to seven gases using 15 sensor options, and is the longest running area monitor with a run time of seven days. The Ventis™ Pro Series, a winner of the 2016 New Product of the Year contest, can detect up to five gases while offering a man-down alarm and dedicated panic button.

"Say no to rugs" was the slogan over at the New Pig booth, where the Grippy Floor Mat was shown off. The Grippy Floor Mat is highly absorbent while offering a very low profile, making it durable and easy to maintain. An adhesive backing ensures the mat won't shift or bunch up, keeping workers safe.

Little Giant Ladder Systems had a number of innovations on display, including the Sumostance, which allows workers to safely operate on uneven ground by utilizing outriggers on the sides of the ladder. It also helps maintain a worker’s position in the case of an overreach. And Columbia Southern University was connecting with alumni while offering its CSP Prep Course, which will open up for enrollment on Dec. 1 of this year. At the busy Honeywell booth on the expo floor, John Montigny, president of Honeywell Industrial Safety, discussed the importance to the safety industry of connected products, known collectively as the Internet of Things (IoT). HIS is well positioned with many connected products, and IoT is a priority for the company, Montigny said during an expo-floor interview. Although the industry is sometimes slow in adopting new technologies and breakthroughs, it is on the verge of an exciting connected era, he predicted. One of the connected products on display at the booth was the award-winning Titan SCBA, which will deliver the wearer's health data to a central monitoring station.

In a related development, Honeywell on Sept. 12 announced it will establish a state-of-the-art Software Center and the headquarters of its newly created Home and Building Technologies business in Atlanta, with the site to open by the fourth quarter of 2016 and employ more than 730 software-focused employees during the next five years. Most will those workers will specialize in software application development, including cloud computing and data analytics, working on critical software projects across the company, its announcement said. "Honeywell is thrilled to be launching a state-of-the-art agile software-driven product development center in Atlanta, Georgia, to create leading-edge software offerings based on the latest cloud, mobility, and analytics technology," said Krishna Mikkilineni, Honeywell's senior vice president of engineering, operations, and IT. "We develop some of the world's most sophisticated software-based products and solutions that play a major role in the Internet of Things, helping airplanes, automobiles, buildings, homes, industrial plants, warehouses, and workers stay connected, safe, productive, and secure. Atlanta offers us access to some of the brightest and most innovative software talent in the U.S. At Honeywell, these engineers will have the opportunity to develop new solutions and offerings that impact industries, improve quality of life, and truly change the world."

The announcement said Honeywell plans to invest $19 million in the site and anticipates receiving approximately $2 million in grants from the state of Georgia and Invest Atlanta, in addition to tax credits that will total more than $10 million, assuming all hiring is completed as scheduled.
