British Production Firm Fined $2 Million after Harrison Ford's Star Wars Injury

Foodles Production company has been fined for the incident.

A British production firm has been fined $2 million for health and safety violations after Harrison Ford was crushed by a hydraulic door on the set of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2014. A decision was made in Aylesbury Crown Court after the company had previously pleaded guilty to two counts of health and safety violations.

A door pinned Ford, causing him to sustain injuries that included a broken left leg.

"The greatest failing of all on behalf of the company is a lack of communication, a lack because, if you have a risk assessment and you do not communicate it, what is the point of having one? That is the most serious breach here," said Judge Francis Sheridan.

The incident occurred when Ford pressed a button on the Millennium Falcon, causing the door to close. Ford believed the set was not live and therefore the door would not close, due to that being the case in previous rehearsals.

Foodles issued a statement in response to the ruling: "The safety of our cast and crew was always a top priority and we deeply regret this unfortunate on-set accident. The Court acknowledged both the additional safety protocols that were immediately implemented, and that it was a very safe production in all other respects."
