US Labor Secretary Renews Workplace Rights Agreements with Five Governments

Thomas E. Perez renewed partnership agreements with Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Peru, and the Phillippines

According to a news release, U.S. Secretary of Labor Thomas E. Perez has renewed partnership agreements with officials from Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Peru, and the Philippines in relation to labor rights. Labor Rights Week just started, and the focus this year is “Your Work Has Dignity. Know Your Rights.”

Under the renewed agreements, OSHA and the Wage and Hour Division will collaborate with consulates in order to provide workers with information about U.S. labor laws.

“Partnerships and outreach play a critical role in advancing workers’ rights and enforcing the laws that protect people at work,” said Secretary Perez. “By renewing these five embassy agreements, we will continue to enhance workers’ awareness about their rights and promote a better understanding of labor laws and practices in the U.S.”

The DOL says these partnerships help the department enforce labor laws more effectively, specifically in high-risk and low-wage industries.
