FMCSA Declares Billy R. Evans Harvesting Imminent Hazard to Public Safety

The company is based in Belle Glade, Fla., and operates 12 buses and six trucks, according to the agency.

The FMCSA announced in a news release it has ordered Billy R. Evans Harvesting, Inc., to stop all intrastate and interstate operations after an investigation found the posed an imminent hazard to public safety.

The Belle Glade, Fla.-based company operates 12 passenger buses for transporting agricultural workers and six trucks for transporting produce from processing plants. The announcement from the FMCSA comes after an incident on July 2, 2016, where four passengers were killed in a collision after a bus owned by the company failed to stop at an intermittent red light and struck another vehicle.

An investigation determined the company violated several standards in the incident that left 24 people injured, including failing to comply with driver qualification requirements and failing to retain records of driving violations and involvement in crashes.

The agency stated Billy R. Evans Harvesting operated with "significantly inadequate basic safety management controls."
