Workers for Grain Processor Exposed to Noise, Fall Hazards

New Alliance has been cited for 16 serious and one other-than-serious safety and health violations.

OSHA announced its Omaha Area Office has cited New Alliance, a grain handler and processor, for 16 serious and one other-than-serious safety and health violations. An inspection under the emphasis program for grain handling found workers were exposed to fall hazards, grain dust explosion hazards, confined space hazards, equipment that was not powered down or locked out, and other risks.

"OSHA grain handling standards address the numerous serious and life-threatening hazards found in grain, bins including grain dust explosions, engulfment and entrapment from flowing grain, falls, and amputation hazards," said Jeff Funke, OSHA's area director in Omaha. "OSHA's safety standards protect workers on the job in this hazardous industry."

New Alliance is based in Bridgeport, Neb., and faces $61,600 in fines.
