Westward, Ho: Safety 2017 Set for Denver

One of the safety industry's best annual events again visits the Mile High City next year. (ASSE's Safety 2012 conference also was in Denver.)

Next year's American Society of Safety Engineers Professional Development Conference & Expo will take place June 19-22 at the Colorado Convention Center -- remember the giant blue bear peering into an upper window out front? -- as one of the safety industry's best annual events again visits the Mile High City. (ASSE's Safety 2012 conference also was in Denver.)

This will be ASSE's first national conference in the state since Colorado opened its first marijuana retail stores on Jan. 1, 2014. Something else to keep in mind for those planning to attend the 2017 event: During the final week of June 2016, assaults taking place on the 16th Street Mall were big news in the Denver Post and Mayor Michael Hancock announced plans to increase police patrols and the number of private security personnel there during the summer months.

The downtown Denver convention center boasts 584,000 square feet of exhibit space on a single level and 63 meeting rooms. The convention center's Twitter feed alerted us late last month that the facility has two B-Cycle Stations for bike sharing, a light rail stop, and bike locks at every entrance, so no car is needed. And it is the host facility for the American Public Health Association's 2016 annual conference taking place Oct. 29-Nov.2.
