WHO Says Drinking Hot Beverages May Cause Cancer
The link isn’t tied directly to coffee, but instead to any hot drink
The WHO has determined that drinking very hot beverages is classified as “probably carcinogenic to humans,” according to a press release. The agency evaluated the carcinogenicity of drinking coffee, mate, and very hot beverages.
No conclusive evidence was found that says coffee should be considered carcinogenic, but instead the experts found that drinking very hot beverages is likely to cause cancer in the oesophagus.
“These results suggest that drinking very hot beverages is one probable cause of oesophageal cancer and that it is the temperature, rather than the drinks themselves, that appears to be responsible,” says Dr. Christopher Wild, IARC Director.
