Grants Available for Parents to Access Child Care and Participate in Training

The DOL has awarded the grants as part of the Strengthening Working Families Initiative

The DOL has made $54 million in grants available for parents in low-to middle-skilled situations help access child care, participate in training, and help compete for better-paying jobs.

According to a news release, the grants have been made available as part of the Strengthening Working Families Initiative. They will help support public-private partnerships in order to help parents get ahead in their careers, by providing access to training in industries like technology and healthcare.

“Caring for children and being responsible parents should not be obstacles for working families seeking to compete for better-paying jobs,” said U.S. Secretary of Labor Thomas E. Perez. “The grants we’re awarding today will help more working parents find affordable, high-quality child care while training for the jobs of today and tomorrow.”
