ACGIH Honoring 2016 Award Winners

Recipients of the 2016 awards are being recognized at this week's American Industrial Hygiene Conference and Exposition in Baltimore for significant contributions to their profession.

ACGIH® will honor its 2016 awards recipients during this week's American Industrial Hygiene Conference and Exposition in Baltimore, thanking the honorees for significant contributions to their profession. The recipients include:

  • William D. Wagner, Herbert E. Stokinger Award: This award is given annually to someone who has made a significant contribution to the broad field of industrial and environmental toxicology. Wagner's career with the U.S. Public Health Service and NIOSH spans 40 years, including serving as chief of the Biological Support Branch with emphasis on inhalation toxicology and chief, Senior Review Activity for the Division of Standards Development and Technical Transfer. After he retired from NIOSH, Wagner became director of Technical Affairs and Science with ACGIH in 1989; he was a member of the Threshold Limit Values for Chemical Substances (TLV®-CS) Committee from 1962 until 1989 and received the Meritorious Achievement Award in 1987 and again in 1999. He retired from ACGIH in 1999 but continued to act as a consultant to the organization.
  • Enjoli DeGrasse Parson, MSPH, CIH, John J. Bloomfield Award: This award goes to a young industrial hygienist who pursues the problem of occupational health hazards primarily by doing fieldwork and demonstrates significant contribution to the profession. Parson, who earned her M.S. degree in Public Health with a specialty in Industrial Hygiene, Risk Assessment and Toxicology from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, has worked for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters for seven years. She serves on AIHA's Social Concerns Committee and is a member of the AIHA Minority Special Interest Group and the AIHA Potomac Local section.
  • Stephen J. Reynolds, P.D., CIH, FAIHA, Meritorious Achievement Award: This award recognizes members of ACGIH who have made an outstanding, long-term contribution to the progress of occupational and environmental hygiene. First presented in 1957, it is the organization's oldest award. Reynolds is a professor and associate head in the Department of Environmental and Radiological Health Sciences of Colorado State University, and he is a faculty member in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health of the Colorado School of Public Health. He served on the ACGIH Board of Directors from 2008 through 2011 and as its chair in 2010, also serving as chair of AIHA's International Affairs Committee and was named a Fellow of the American Industrial Hygiene Association in 2010.
  • Vickie L. Wells, MS, CIH, CSP, William Steiger Memorial Award: This award honors individuals from the social/political sphere whose efforts have contributed to advancements in occupational safety and health. Wells is the director of Occupational Safety and Health for the San Francisco Department of Public Health. She served on the ACGIH Board of Directors from 1999 to 2005 and was its chair in 2004. She was a Public Member of the National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health from 2002 through 2008.
  • Gerry A. Lanham, P.E., Robert T. Hughes Memorial Award: This award recognizes outstanding individuals in the field of industrial ventilation and was recently established to honor Hughes, who died in late 2014. He had served as chairman of the Industrial Ventilation Committee for 11 years before stepping down in 2001; Lanham is the inaugural recipient of the Hughes Award. He is the past president of KBD/Technic, Inc., a CECO Environmental Company, and has more than46 years' experience in the design, testing, and installation of industrial ventilation systems. He is the co-author of a patent for HVAC controls and a system for protection against biohazard attack.
