The National Fire Protection Association again this year is supporting Domino's annual spring campaign that reminds the American public that they should change their smoke alarm batteries when they change their clocks for daylight saving time at 2 a.m. local time this Sunday, March 13.

"Domino's reaches thousands of people through delivery on a daily basis, and we want to use that opportunity to share fire safety tips with families across the country," said Jenny Fouracre, a spokesperson for the pizza company. "Daylight saving time is a great time to remember to change your smoke alarm batteries after you set your clocks ahead. This small step is an easy one, but it can help save lives."

Functional smoke alarms reduce the risk of dying in a fire in half, according to NFPA, which recommends testing them monthly to make sure they're working properly. Some smoke alarms have non-replaceable (long-life) batteries designed to remain effective for up to 10 years, but it's wise to replace the batteries annually in smoke alarms without these long-life batteries. If an alarm with a long-life battery chirps, warning that the battery is low, replace the entire smoke alarm right away.
