NTSB Seeking New Director for Highway Safety Office

The director is responsible for providing executive level management and direction for highway transportation accident investigations and highway research programs.

Sept. 10 is now the end of the extended open period for an attractive, safety-related job announcement from the National Transportation Safety Board. NTSB is seeking "a highly skilled and effective executive manager" to serve as the director of its Office of Highway Safety. The position's salary range is $121,956 to $183,300 annually.

The director is responsible for providing executive level management and direction for highway transportation accident investigations and highway research programs. The Office of Highway Safety investigates highway accidents, including railroad grade crossing accidents, to identify root causes and makes recommendations to prevent future accidents.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, have no financial interest in transportation enterprises, and meet other criteria. "The incumbent represents the Office and NTSB on issues related to highway transportation safety. Establishes and maintains relationships and is the liaison with highway transportation safety groups, associations, state and Federal regulators and officials. Also, provides authoritative advice and expertise for the development of transportation safety standards and regulations, and the advancement of technology initiatives. Incumbent may be called upon to provide Congressional testimony," the announcement states.
