Driving in the U.S. Hits Historic High for 2015

Americans' driving has doubled this generation, according to a Federal Highway Administration report.

The Federal Highway Administration released new estimates that show driving in the United States topped 1.54 trillion miles during the first half of 2015, which beats the previous record set in June 2007. This is more than double the amount driven during the same period in 1981, according to the report.

These numbers rationalize Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx's repeated calls for increased investment in transportation infrastructure as the demand continues to grow. According to the Traffic Volume Trends report, the nation's driving has increased for 16 months in a row.
