London Brigade's Report Lists Most Dangerous Hour for Fires

That hour is 7 p.m. during July. The hour with the fewest fires is 6 a.m., according to its “Fire Facts 1966-2014” report.

The London Fire Brigade has produced its most detailed report on fire data in its history, "Fire Facts 1966-2014." The report provides the most in-depth review of fire data in the brigade's 150-year history. It covers long-term trends, when and where fires happen, and home fires and building fires.

The hour when the highest number of fires is 7 p.m. in July. The hour of the day when the fewest fires occur is 6 a.m.

More than 30,000 fires occurred each year from 1966 until 2008, and for most of the 36 years between 1969 and 2005, the total number of fires remained between 40,000 and 50,000 fires a year. Fortunately, fires in 2014 dropped below 20,000 for the first time since records for Greater London began, according to the brigade.

The years with the highest number of fires were:

  • 1976: 63,524
  • 2003: 58,233
  • 1989: 56,893
  • 1995: 55,962
