NYC Fire Department Promotes 28 EMS Members

"This group of outstanding FDNY members represents the future of emergency medical services in New York City and who will guide the EMTs and paramedics serving in the field as they respond to life-threatening emergencies," Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro said.

With New York City's fire commissioner, Daniel A. Nigro, presiding over the ceremony at the agency's headquarters in Brooklyn, 28 FDNY Emergency Medical Service members were promoted March 12. FDNY's announcement said four EMS lieutenants were promoted to the rank of captain and 24 members were raised to the rank of EMS-Lieutenant.

"This group of outstanding FDNY members represents the future of emergency medical services in New York City and who will guide the EMTs and paramedics serving in the field as they respond to life-threatening emergencies," the commissioner said. "In their new ranks, they will ensure the quality of patient care at many of the more than 1.3 million medical emergencies our members respond to each year."

The newly promoted members represent more than 350 years of combined experience with the department, according to FDNY.
