Nearly 11.7 Million Enrolled in Health Insurance Marketplaces

More than 4.1 million young people selected a plan or were re-enrolled, according to HHS.

HHS announced that nearly 11.7 million consumers selected or were automatically re-enrolled in health insurance coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace. And 8.84 million of those enrolled were in a state using the HealthCare.gov platform while 2.85 million were in states using their own marketplace platforms.

More than 4.1 million consumers under the age of 35 are signed up for marketplace coverage. Specifically, of those aged 18 to 34, 3.3 million are registered, making up 28 percent of all plans.

"The figures released today tell a story of health coverage consumers rely on for financial and health security – and of coverage they don't want to lose," said HHS Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell. "Millions of marketplace consumers in HealthCare.gov states qualified for tax credits to make their coverage affordable and accessible.  People who come to the marketplace for coverage are actively engaged and shopping for the product that's best for them and their families. The Affordable Care Act is working, and we're grateful to the volunteers, assistors, navigators, local officials, members of Congress, and many national organizations who joined this effort across the country."
