Blake Griffin, the Los Angeles Clippers' leading scorer, will undergo surgery Feb. 9 in Los Angeles to remove a staph infection in his right elbow, the team announced Feb. 8. While the Clippers said Griffin will be re-evaluated after the NBA's All-Star break, ESPN's Ramona Shelburne reported that Griffin is projected to be out for four to six weeks.

The team announced the surgery will be performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache and assisted by Clippers team physician Dr. Steven Shimoyama.

Griffin, 25, is an All-Star forward. He is averaging 22.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game this season.

Without him, the team lost 131-108 at Oklahoma City during a Feb. 8 afternoon game that dropped its record to 33-19 this season. The Clippers will play the Dallas Mavericks on the road Feb. 9 and then host the Houston Rockets on Feb. 11.
