OSHA, BCSP Form Alliances with Associated General Contractors of America
The two agreements apply to construction workers in San Antonio and to workplaces nationwide.
Working together to protect construction workers in San Antonio, OSHA and the Association of General Contractors (AGC) have signed an alliance to provide safety and health training to their members. OSHA's announcement said the alliance is for two years. The Board of Certified Safety Professionals and AGC also announced they will collaborate on improving occupational safety and health nationwide, with AGC CEO Stephen Sandherr and BCSP's board president, Cece Weldon, CSP, CHST, STS, signing that agreement during the AGC Safety and Health Committee Conference.
"BCSP is proud to partner with AGC to work together to strengthen the safety, health and environmental practice," said BCSP CEO Dr. Treasa Turnbeaugh, CSP, ASP, CET. "AGC and BCSP leadership hold safety as a common value, and this agreement is the result of a desire on the part of each organization to further encourage the development of occupational safety and health professionals and practitioners."
The OSHA alliance "provides construction workers with much needed training on recognizing and avoiding construction site hazards such as falls, struck-by, caught in/or between and electrical," said Alejandro Porter, OSHA's Area Director in San Antonio. "The alliance also provides OSHA with a collaborative partnership with employers to find and fix hazards to prevent workers from being hurt."
The AGC San Antonio Chapter serves more than 425 member firms in 19 counties throughout South Texas. They contribute much to the community by building parks, hotels, stores, offices, schools, churches, hospitals, and military facilities.
Through its Alliance Program, OSHA works with businesses, trade associations, unions, consulates, professional organizations, faith- and community-based organizations and educational institutions to prevent workplace fatalities, injuries and illnesses. The purpose of each alliance is to develop compliance assistance tools and resources and to educate workers and employers about their rights and responsibilities.
