Chinese MH370 Search Vessel Sets SAR Record

The Haixun 01 returned to Shanghai, its homeport, Oct. 12 after 216 days of searching for the missing jetliner, the Xinhua news agency reported.

China's Xinhua news agency reported that the Chinese patrol ship Haixun 01 arrived Oct. 12 at its homeport in Shanghai after 216 days searching for the missing MH370 jetliner. The search continues in the southern Indian Ocean for the aircraft after it lost contact with ground controllers during a flight from Kuala Lumpu to Beijing on March 8, 2014, with 239 passengers and crew members aboard.

The ship's crew established new records for Chinese maritime search and rescue work, traveling 22,371 nautical miles and searching more than 240,000 square kilometers, according to the report.

The report said China thus far has dedicated 19 ships, eight helicopters, and five fixed-wing planes to the search and has employed satellites, deep-water equipment, a submersible robot, underwater cameras, and black box detectors, cooperating with Malaysian and Australian search efforts.
