Deadline Nears for 9/11 Responders to File Claims

NYCOSH is hosting a news conference Sept. 5 to explain how to file and who qualifies.

Thursday, Sept. 11 is the final deadline for workers who participated in the rescue, recovery, and cleanup of debris following the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City to register their service with the New York State Workers Compensation Board.

NYCOSH, the New York Committee for Occupational Safety & Health, reports that workers are still coming forward with newly evident illnesses related to their service almost 13 years ago. Sept. 11, 2014, is the deadline by which rescue, recovery, and cleanup workers must register their service with the New York State Workers Compensation Board in order to preserve their right to file a claim, according to NYCOSH, which will hold a news conference at 10 a.m. Sept. 5 on the steps of City Hall in Manhattan to discuss the deadline and explain how to file and who qualifies.

Workers and volunteers who register their service by filing a Form WTC-12 before the deadline will maintain their right to file a future claim for wage replacement and health care benefits.
