CSB Sets July 16 Meeting on AL Solutions Explosion

During the meeting in Charleston, W.Va., the board also will provide an update on its investigation of the January 2014 Freedom Industries tank leak that contaminated the area's drinking water supply.

The Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB) will hold a July 16 public meeting in Charleston, W.Va., to hear findings and recommendations from the staffers who have investigated the Dec. 9, 2010, explosion and fire at the AL Solutions titanium plant in New Cumberland, W.Va. The explosion killed three employees who were processing titanium powder, which is highly combustible, at the time.

The meeting will begin at noon in the ballroom at the Four Points Sheraton, 600 Kanawha Blvd E. During it, the board also will provide an update on its investigation into the Jan. 9, 2014, tank leak at a Freedom Industries facility. The leak contaminated the drinking water supply for 300,000 West Virginia residents.

Following the staff presentation, the board will hear comments from the public.
