Bombardier Recreational Products U.S. Recalls Heated Gloves

The Sturtevant, Wis.-based company has voluntarily recalled them after receiving three reports of batteries overheating while charging.

Bombardier Recreational Products U.S. Inc. has recalled about 1,650 pairs of Ski-Doo® and Can-Am® heated gloves and lithium-ion rechargeable batteries after learning that the glove's rechargeable battery pack can overheat, posing a fire hazard. Both BRP and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission posted releases announcing the recall Feb. 25.

The black gloves are sold with two lithium-ion rechargeable batteries and a charger; the gloves have either "ski-doo" or "can-am" on the pointer finger and on the wristband of each glove. The battery pack is located on the zipped pouch on the wrist of each glove. The recalled product codes can be found on a label sewn inside of the gloves: 446247 for the Can-Am heated gloves, 446248 for the Ski-Doo heated gloves, and 4880580001 for the lithium-ion rechargeable batteries that are sold separately.

The releases advise consumers to immediately disconnect all battery packs from the electrical connections and remove and avoid charging the battery. They can contact an authorized dealership or BRP directly (888-638-5397 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET Monday through Thursday and 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Friday, or online here) for a full refund. Customers can keep the gloves.

About 450 pairs were sold in the United States and 1,200 in Canada for up to $199.99; that amount will be reimbursed for a returned charger and the two battery packs. Up to $49.99 in reimbursement will be paid for the return of two additional battery packs. BRP has received three reports of batteries overheating while charging, two in Canada and one in United States, with minor property damage in two of them. No injuries have been reported.
