Norovirus Spreading in TX, LA Oysters

The FDA has issued a warning that the highly contagious virus is spreading through oysters.

The Food and Drug Administration has officially issued a warning urging people in Texas and Louisiana not to eat oysters that come from Copano Bay in Aransas County, Texas. Oysters harvested from the bay have been linked to cases of norovirus in Louisiana. FDA has urged consumers not to eat raw or partially cooked oysters that were harvested between Dec. 26, 2013, and Jan. 9, 2014.

The Texas Department of State Health Services closed Copano Bay to shellfish harvesting on Jan. 9, 2014, according to FDA's news release. So far, six cases of the norovirus have been reported in Louisiana.
