NCCCO experts will provide safety guidance and live demos of crane safety in the Lift Safety Zone at this year

IPAF, NCCCO to Offer Safe Lifting Demos at CONEXPO-CON/AGG

The biggest North American construction show of 2014 will take place in early March at the Las Vegas Convention Center, with more than 125,000 attendees expected.

This year's CONEXPO-CON/AGG trade show in Las Vegas will offer plenty of safety sessions and hands-on demonstrations to attendees. More than 125,000 people are expected to attend the March 4-8 event at the Las Vegas Convention Center to see cranes, earthmoving equipment, pumps, trucks, and a host of other products, including lots of fall protection and PPE, from more than 2,400 exhibitors. The show is put on by the Association of Equipment Manufacturers, a trade association for companies that make equipment and products used in agriculture, construction, forestry, mining, and utility work.

The Lift Safety Zone at this year's CONEXPO/CON-AGG construction trade show will include live demos of safe use of aerial work platforms and cranes. The event includes an 8,000-square-foot Lift Safety Zone in the Gold Lot. There, the International Powered Access Federation will be presenting live demos on safe use of aerial work platforms when work is done near power lines, and experts from the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) will be on site to demonstrate and answer questions about the safe use of cranes. IPAF's demonstrations will draw on data from its accident reporting project, which indicates electrocutions are the largest single cause of fatalities for aerial work platform operators in the United States.

NCCCO also is making it possible for new candidates and current certificants to take a ANSI-accredited and OSHA-compliant crane operator recertification exams at the event. The organization says its "Visit CONEXPO—Leave Certified" program will feature on-site scoring and immediate test results, so successful candidates will be able to walk away from the event certified.
