University of Arizona Receives $1.3 Million Grant to Study Mine Safety
The Alpha Foundation awards the grant to the university
The University of Arizona, based in Tucson, AZ, has been awarded a $1.3 million grant from the Alpha Foundation for the Improvement of Mine Safety and Health. According to a news release from the San Francisco Gate, the university will use the grant to conduct two research studies on ways to improve mine safety.
The first study will cover risk management and be completed by the college of public health, who will assess whether or not mining safety initiatives are reducing injuries and costs. The second study will cover how to improve mine safety training and will be completed by the university’s mineral resources institute and will help miners implement federal safety standards.
