48,000 Personal Emergency Transmitters Recalled

Linear LLC has recalled about 48,000 of the Personal Emergency Reporting Systems (PERS) transmitters, which are components of Linear PERS products. The user pushes a button on the transmitter to summon assistance.

Linear LLC of Carlsbad, Calif., has recalled about 48,000 Personal Emergency Reporting Systems (PERS) transmitters, which are components of Linear PERS products. The user pushes a button on the transmitter to summon assistance. The battery clips in the transmitters can corrode, causing them to operate intermittently or not at all, without generating a warning.

Transmitter models DXS-LRC, DXS-LRC-LA, DXS-LRP, and DXS-LRW, manufactured from June 2013 to July 2013 with date codes 1306 and 1307 representing the year and month, and 1329 (representing the 29th week of 2013) are included in the recall, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Dec. 9.

The model number and date codes are on the back of the transmitter. The DXS-LRC and DXS-LRP transmitter are pendants, while the DXS-LRW is a wristband. Linear LLC has received one report of a transmitter that failed to operate but no injuries have been reported, according to CPSC. Independent PERS distributors and dealers nationwide sold these from June 2013 through August 2013 for about $45.

Consumers should immediately contact Linear toll-free at 855-554-2384 from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. EST or visit its website to inquire about receiving a free replacement transmitter.
