Houston's Fire Chief Resigns
Terry Garrison announced he'll return to Phoenix to attend to an ailing grandson.
Terry Garrison, who has been Houston’s fire chief since Sept. 15, 2010, resigned Nov. 14. He's returning to Phoenix, where his family still lives, to attend to an ailing, infant grandson, The Houston Chronicle's Jennifer Radcliffe reported Nov. 14.
The city's mayor, Annise Parker, appointed him and thanked him for his service, she reported.Garrison began his firefighting career in 1977 with the Phoenix Fire Department.
"It's a great city, a great fire department and the mayor's one of the best bosses I ever had -- I just got to go back home," Garrison said, according to her report. Parker sent a letter to the City Council saying Garrison has agreed to stay on until his replacement is in place, Radcliffe reported.
