OSHA Has Issued Almost $200,000 in Fines to CVS
A Brooklyn outpost of the national pharmacy chain is cited for several violations
OSHA has cited CVS Albany LLC’s location at 2151 86th St. in Brooklyn with $199,500 in fines, according to a press release from their website. The fines came as a result of a complaint inspection in March from the Manhattan office of OSHA.
Though there were a number of different citations, five of them were serious, and included a locked gate in front of an emergency exit, a difficult-to-open fire exit door, blocked access to a fire extinguisher, lack of fire extinguisher training for employees and a missing stairway handrail. These serious violations amounted to over $30,000 in fines.
In addition to serious violations, CVS was cited for various recurring hazards, such as an obstructed exit route, boxes stored near fire sprinkler heads and an uncovered electrical junction box. OSHA determined that these hazards could cause slips, trips, falls, electrical shock, crushing and other serious injuries.
The pharmacy chain has been cited for similar violations in different locations across the country in the past.
