London Fire Plan Approved, 10 Stations Closing
The plan goes more than halfway toward eliminating the brigade's planning budget savings of £45 million during the next two years.
The London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority approved the final version of the fifth draft of the London Safety Plan, which means the London Fire Brigade will close 10 fire stations, cut its minimum number of personnel on fire rescue units from five to four, cut its pumper units, and also cut overall firefighter numbers by Jan. 9, 2014.
The authority wants to cut £45 million in its budget during the next two years; the approved plan will achieve £29 million of that amount.
The measure barely passed on Sept. 12. Chairman James Cleverly voted to approve it after eight members voted for the proposals, eight voted against, and one member abstained.
