Air Pistols Recalled for Explosion Risk

CPSC announced the recall of about 16,000 semi-automatic air pistols by Crosman Corp. of Bloomfield, N.Y.

Crosman Corp. has recalled about 16,000 semi-automatic air pistols with model numbers C21, C31, and 9-C31BRM because they can explode at high temperatures and thus pose a risk of serious injuries to users. The Consumer Product Safety Commission posted information about the recall Sept. 6 on its homepage; the company's online notice bears a June 2013 date and says the company will pay a $60 refund to U.S. and Canadian consumers whose guns are subject to the recall.

Pistols with serial numbers beginning with 12J, 12K, 12L, 12M, 13A, 13B, or 13C are affect. The model and serial numbers are located on side of the air pistol. It use a carbon dioxide cartridge to propel plastic BBs and is used for recreational shooting.

No injuries have been reported in connection with the product, according to the CPSC notice, which says these pistols were sold at sporting goods stores, mass merchandisers, and other stores from November 2012 through June 2013 for between $45 and $60. They were manufactured by WinGun Technology Co. Ltd., of Taiwan.
