After a handful of accidents at the beet sugar company American Crystal Sugar, state inspectors have cited itwith 30 safety regulation violations. The violations occurred at the East Grand Forks, Minn., plant, according to an article from the Star Tribune.
After three employees faced serious burns, state inspectors decided to investigate the facility. Their inspection cited various violations, including issues with stairs and machines, management of hazardous chemicals, emergency response to hazardous waste, and more.
In March, the facility was cited for having improper guards over wall openings as a result of two employees being injured when they fell into an uncovered sump pump and received serious burns. The company was given a $7,000 fine, which it paid in full. The third burn occurred in February when a worker was burned by a hot liquid. The company faced over $20,000 in fines then.
Contesting OSHA's allegations, the company could face up to $60,000 in fines.
