Florida Roofer Fined $213,300 for Fall Hazard Violations
Collis Roofing Inc. received four citations related to the company's alleged lack of fall protection.
Florida roofing company Collis Roofing Inc. received three willful violations and one serious violation from OSHA in relation to fall hazards. Two investigations by OSHA officials that began last November resulted in $213,300 worth of fines.
The three willful violations, carrying $210,000 in fines, related to an alleged lack of fall protection provided by the employer. The $3,300 violation was received for failure to inspect a fall harness that was previously involved in an impact event.
"When fall protection is absent, workers are only steps away from a serious injury or death," said Teresa Harrison, OSHA's acting regional administrator for the Southeast, in a statement on the OSHA website. "Employers must ensure that workers have and wear the proper equipment at all times."
Education on fall protection, an important initiative for OSHA, is available on the administration's fall prevention website.
