'Lone Ranger' Producer Faces Fines

A producer of Walt Disney's upcoming film "The Lone Ranger" received Cal/OSHA fines related to an employee's death on the set.

California OSHA has issued fines totaling more than $60,000 to a producer of the upcoming Walt Disney film "The Lone Ranger" for violations relating to the on-set September death of an employee, The Los Angeles Times reported.

The incident did not occur during filming; the employee drowned while cleaning a water tank in preparation to shoot a scene for the movie. There was no other diver present during the cleaning, and the agency concluded the employee was not examined to determine medical clearance to dive. According to the newspaper's report, the employer did not verify that all employees diving in the tank had first aid training in the event of an accident, and there was no supervisor in charge of the dive to ensure safety standards were met.
