First Part of 'The Station' Web Movie Debuts

The seven-part documentary is the first to be made about the nightclub fire, and episode 1 premiered on the 10th anniversary of that tragic event.

Midway Pictures and Tyco have released the first episode of a seven-part documentary about the deadly fire at The Station, a nightclub in West Warwick, R.I. One hundred people died in the Feb. 20, 2003, fire that began when pyrotechnics accompanying a band's performance ignited flammable sound-proofing foam around the stage.

The first episode is available at the project's website, www.thestationmovie.com, and its YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/TheStationWebSeries. Subsequent episodes will be posted on consecutive Wednesdays.

The documentary's director, David Bettencourt, said the purpose of the project is captured by its tagline, "Learn. Remember. Heal." The film tells the stories of individuals directly affected by the fire, including survivors, relatives of some of the victims, first responders, and hospital specialists who treated burn victims.

"This is as much an educational endeavor as it is an effort to tell compelling stories to a mass audience," said Bettencourt. "This project is an effort to raise awareness, promote education, and change the way people think about fire safety."

Tyco, a fire protection and security company, is providing financial support for the project and also is promoting and sharing the episodes internally to its 69,000 employees around the world.

"This collection of stories will celebrate the lives of those who were lost and preserves the legacy of this catastrophic and preventable event," Bettencourt said.

The first episode features Gina Russo, whose fiancé, Fred Crisostomi, died in the fire, and also Alison Musco, a staff nurse at Shriner's Hospital in Boston.
