Wyoming Refinery Faces More Fines

Sinclair Oil's refinery has been cited by Wyoming OSHA several times in recent years, and now the agency has proposed a $259,950 fine.

The Wyoming Occupational Safety and Health Administration has proposed a $259,950 fine for alleged violations it found at the Sinclair Oil refinery near Rawlins, Wyo., which is "Wyoming's most-fined refinery for safety violations," Adam Voge of the Casper Star-Tribune reported.

He reported the proposed fine involves some previously cited violations and some additional ones for items such as failing to cover open floor holes and have a fire extinguisher at an assigned location.

One of the incidents Wyoming OSHA investigated at the refinery was a May 8, 2012, flash fire that injured four Sinclair employees, three of them seriously, according to the agency.

Voge reported Sinclair officials plan to meet with the state agency's representatives to discuss the proposed fine.
