DOL Assists with Insurance for Jobless Workers
Six states and the District of Columbia were awarded funds that can help provide insurance for the unemployed.
The Department of Labor awarded more than $1 million to the National Emergency Grant to help supply jobless workers with insurance coverage. This grant will also expand this insurance coverage to more states and qualified workers.
The $1,058,254 supplement to the National Emergency Grant will aid workers in Alabama, Delaware, Maryland, Mississippi, South Carolina, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
"It is difficult enough to find new employment, let alone do so without health insurance for you or your family," said Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis, in a statement on the DOL website. "This funding will help eligible workers avoid that prospect by helping them pay for health insurance while they seek new jobs."
These grants were awarded based on the state's ability to meet specific guidelines mandated by the Department of Labor.
