AAA Reports Increase in Holiday Travelers
AAA reports that highways and airports might be more crowded than last year.
According to AAA, more Americans should be hitting the highways this year for Thanksgiving. AAA releases an annual travel forecast, which predicted that 43.6 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles. This includes people who may choose to drive rather than fly.
The number is up by 0.7 percent from last year. Nearly 24 million people will pick the airport over the highway, making planes nearly 90 percent full on the busiest traveling days, today and the Monday following Thanksgiving Day.
Luckily, the weather is cooperating in most portions of the country, excluding the Chicago area, where dense fog has led to more than 100 flights already being canceled.
Another problem facing travelers this holiday week is massive traffic congestion. Los Angeles International Airport warned travelers to expect congestion and delays when venturing toward LAX.
TSA is staffed at full capacity in preparation for the busy week.
