Do You Value Trade Shows? ISEA Wants to Know
The International Safety Equipment Association's brief online survey asks buyers, users, and specifiers of PPE where they obtain product information, whether existing trade shows have value, and how to make them better.
The International Safety Equipment Association, ISEA, wants to know how valuable its members' customers believe the major U.S. trade shows are these days. To find out what a broad cross-section of safety product buyers, users, and specifiers think of the shows, ISEA has created an online survey and asked Occupational Health & Safety to alert its audience through an online article and e-newsletters.
"We'll put the link up on our site, but we think getting it out to all of the communication mechanisms that you have will allow us to reach a much broader audience," Dan Shipp, president of ISEA, explained Nov. 16.
It is a short survey, just 15 questions spread over four pages.
Shipp said safety equipment manufacturers feel as though they're being pulled in several directions by the frequency of general safety trade shows, construction shows, fire shows, and more. Some would prefer to participate in one major, national trade show every other year that is located in the same city each time –- in the same way the well-attended A+A show takes place in alternate years in Dusseldorf, Germany.
ISEA leaders will discuss their concerns with representatives of ASSE, AIHA, and the National Safety Council during the first day of the Nov. 28-30 ISEA Fall Meeting, which will take place in Arlington, Va. at the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel, Shipp said.
The Fall Meeting has an impressive program: OSHA Assistant Secretary Dr. David Michaels is scheduled to be the General Session keynote speaker on Nov. 29, and a panel of three speakers will discuss worker safety issues involved in hydraulic fracturing and offshore oil exploration. The panelists are James Watson, director of the U.S. Interior Department's Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement; Charlie Williams, executive director of the Center for Offshore Safety at the American Petroleum Institute; and Ralph Tijerina, vice president for safety and environment for Ranger Resources and co-chair fo the safety committee of the Marcellus Shale Coalition, an industry trade group for natural gas fracturing in Western Pennsylvania and Ohio.
Jonathan Karl, luncheon speaker on Nov. 29, is ABC News' senior political correspondent, covering Congress. This year, he covered the political conventions and various candidates on the campaign trail, according to ISEA.
