Good Weather Forecast for NSC Week in Orlando

There's no threat from Hurricane Rafael, which passed Bermuda on Tuesday, heading harmlessly to the northeast.

Only Bermuda, with a tropical storm warning in effect, was expected to be affected Oct. 16 by Hurricane Rafael, a category 1 storm with 90 mph maximum sustained winds as of 8 a.m. that day. The storm was tracking to the north-northeast at a speed of nearly 24 mph, with the National Hurricane Center forecasting a turn toward the northeast and an increase in forward speed by Oct. 17.

The hurricane posed no threat to Florida, although the center warned swells caused by the storm could cause life-threatening surf and rip currents at some East Coast beaches. No other hurricanes that could were in the process of forming as of Oct. 16.

The weather forecast for Orlando and the Orange County Convention Center, where the National Safety Congress & Expo's opening general session will take place at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 22, is promising. Weather.gov's seven-day forecast for the city says Oct. 21 and 22 will be mostly sunny with north-northeast winds 5-10 mph and highs near 85. Overnight low temperatures will be around 65.
