New Coast Guard Cutter Arrives in Juneau
The 110-foot Cutter Chandeleur arrived Oct. 5 to bolster the emergency response capability of the force there, after being moved from Miami.
The 110-foot Coast Guard Cutter Chandeleur arrived in Juneau, Alaska on Oct. 5, bolstering the emergency response capability of the force there after being moved from Miami. It has a crew of 18 personnel.
"We welcome the crew of the Chandeleur to Alaska," said Capt. Scott Bornemann, commander of Coast Guard Sector Juneau. "This platform will help preserve our ability to safeguard mariners in Southeast Alaska."
Commissioned in 1988, the ship is the newest cutter assigned to the Coast Guard 17th District and recently underwent a significant modernization at the Coast Guard Yard in Baltimore. According to the Coast Guard's release, the maintenance period included replacement of hull plating, tanks, piping, and electrical wiring; deck renewal; rehabilitation of berthing spaces, and installation of new prototype equipment such as switchboards and generator sets.
