Red Cross Groups to Launch Global Disaster Preparedness Center
An Oct. 12 launch event will take place at American Red Cross headquarters in Washington, D.C.
The American Red Cross, along with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, will host a launch event Oct. 12 for a Global Disaster Preparedness Center. The event will include high-level speakers and activities related to current efforts and initiatives around the world in disaster preparedness.
ARC's announcement described the center as a "globally focused reference center that will support learning and knowledge sharing for disaster preparedness practitioners. With Red Cross and Red Crescent national societies as its primary target audience, the center will focus on a host of services and initiatives in the next year, including an interactive website that will foster learning, exchange of materials and networking. Additionally, a research program will fund studies on topics such as the value of social media in public awareness and cost benefit analysis of disaster preparedness interventions."
The event will begin at 10 a.m. and last 90 minutes at American Red Cross National Headquarters, 430 17th St. NW, Washington, DC 20006.
