Gloves Containing Chromium (VI) Recalled in Germany

Two types of protective gloves and a type of men's leather dress glove have been recalled, the European Commission's RAPEX team reports.

Three types of gloves that contain varying levels of hexavalent chromium, or Chromium (VI), have been withdrawn from the market by German authorities, according to the latest recall notice from the European Commission's RAPEX team. The three were made in different countries: one in China, one in Taiwan, and one in Pakistan, the notice states.

The Taiwanese-made gloves are lined leather work gloves bearing the HM Mullner brand. These contain 40-67 mg/kg of Chromium (VI), which can trigger allergic reactions. The gloves do not comply with the Personal Protective Equipment Directive and the relevant European standard EN 420, the notice states.

Also withdrawn are Chinese-made, Infinity Man brand black suede gloves that contain 16.5-35.2 mg/kg of Chromium (VI) and also a Dispersion Orange 37 dye, at 385.8 mg/kg, that can cause allergic reactions and was detected in the gloves' lining; and HKM Texas brand leather gloves, made in Pakistan. The notice says 1.62 mg/kg of extractable Chromium (VI) was found in the palm area of the right glove that was tested and 7.3 mg/kg was found in the palm of the left glove.
