NIOSH Seeking Respiratory Disease Studies Deputy Director

The division conducts surveillance, field studies, and research on occupational diseases such as asthma, COPD, and pneumoconiosis -– also called black lung disease, which is caused by inhaling coal dust.

NIOSH is seeking applications to fill the position of deputy director of its Division of Respiratory Disease Studies in Morgantown, W.Va. The application deadline is Jan. 13.

The division conducts surveillance, field studies, and laboratory research on occupational diseases including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and pneumoconiosis, or black lung disease, which is caused by inhaling coal dust. The division also coordinates the NIOSH Tuberculosis research program, which is designed to improve recognition, evaluation, prevention, and control of tuberculosis transmission where workplace or occupation increases the risk of infection. The institute program is part of the larger CDC program for eliminating TB.
