Award Applications Sought from HAI Leaders
This is the second year that HHS has partnered with the Critical Care Societies Collaborative to recognize critical care teams and health care institutions for outstanding leadership to reduce or eliminate these infections.
Hospitals, units, and teams of critical care professionals that have successfully reduced or eliminated health care-associated infections (HAIs) are invited to apply by Dec. 19, 2011, for awards from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services and the Critical Care Societies Collaborative.
This is the second year they have partnered to present these awards, which recognize benchmark systems of excellence that reduce targeted HAIs for 25 months or longer. Thirty-seven facilities were recognized during the first awards cycle, when more than 250 teams and organizations applied, for leadership in eliminating ventilator-associated pneumonia and central line-associated bloodstream infections.

The Critical Care Societies Collaborative is composed of American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Thoracic Society, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
